Teacher Burt’s Story with Landi

Hello all, my name is Burt Murphy. I have been teaching for only 5 months and I love it. I am from a small town in the US called Loveland in the state of Colorado, but I live in the country of Mexico about an hour and half south of Mexico City in the town of Cuernavaca. My wife is from here and we have 3 daughters that we have taught both Spanish and English since they were babies. Besides teaching English I am an artist at home. I am glass blower and I make ocean animals (mostly sea turtles) out of glass using an intensely hot flame from a specially designed torch. I have been make glass art since I was 16 years old and I was taught by my father Ron Murphy. You can find my work at www.tugasglass.com or at www.glassnfire.com with my Dads work.

I never thought I could enjoy something more than making glass art but you did it Landi. I find teaching is not just teaching but it is much more than that, to me it is about helping these kids enjoying life by making the class fun and memorable. I can see that Landi kids are great kids and that they need to have fun and that the learning process is fun and it can be that way only if the teacher makes it fun. Let me give an example of experiences I have with these great kids. I have a student who likes to be called Peach. She is always wanted to start class with playing that an imaginary snake is going to eat teacher Burt and after I react like a person being eaten by a snake she starts laughing and having fun and then we being our journey in learning, all this in the English language. So, when I am done with the classes at the end of the day I find myself feel so happy and upbeat all day, because all my students are great kids like Peach in their own way, and we experienced the journey of learning together. I feel as though Landi understands what I feel as a parent, that “A child’s mental health is more important than their grades”.

One thing I would like to say to the teachers is let the kids have fun, and be patient with them. If they are not engaged with find a way to get them by doing something fun or funny and I promise you well enjoy teaching with Landi.
And Landi staff keep up the great work you guys are awesome for being so kind and helpful to us teachers. And thank you for letting me be a part of this great experience.
Sincerely,
Burt Murphy
